My Last Meal

To all my amazing followers,

I’d like to thank you for all your support and love through this little project. I have thoroughly enjoyed sharing my love of food with all of you, but am sad to say that it’s time for me to move on to something new. This has been a terrific experience that I could not have accomplished without each and every one of you.

Thanks again and keep eating,

Best Meal of the Day

Sorry about the big gap in posts! Trying to stay on top of everything here. Lately there has been a lot of baking happening at Pitzer. My roommate and I have decided to use http://mingmakescupcakes.yolasite.com/ and try to make every single one of them. Our first cupcakes were chocolate sour cream cupcakes with nutella frosting (Cupcake 22). They were great. And for those of you who think sour cream? Ew! Don’t, all the sour cream does is give the cupcake a really soft and fluffy texture. You can’t taste it at all. Our second go around we made the sour cream fig cupcakes with cream cheese frosting (Cupcake 13). We didn’t have figs or fig jam, so instead we used Marion Blackberry jam. They were incredible. I love nutella, but these were better. Also they were a huge hit with friends. We also made the sour cream raspberry cupcakes with cream cheese frosting (Cupcake 25), but tragedy struck and they got ruined before we could snap a photo! Most recently (aka today), we made graham cupcakes with key lime cream cheese frosting (Cupcake 32). Yum! I wasn’t super thrilled about the idea of this recipe at first, they sounded a little odd to me. But I have to say, I was very pleasantly surprised. They are so good! I think my favorite are still the fig (or in our case blackberry) cupcakes though. Baking at school has been so much fun and I can’t wait to try more of Ming’s recipes!

Sorry for the big gap! A lot has been going on these past few weeks. So last night, at around 10 my roommate and I realized we were hungry. To satisfy our hunger we went to a student run restaurant on campus called The Shakedown. The Shakedown is all organic and made to order: from burritos, to burgers, to desserts, it all sounds so good. I got their burger with tomato, onion, The Shakedown’s burger sauce, cheese, and fried rosemary. It was delicious! There is also a really nice atmosphere at the Shakedown, couches, rocking chairs, tables, it’s definitely a cool place to get your work done. Can’t wait to go back and try more of their food.

oddsofus asked: Hi Izzy,my name is Rohan, Thanks for the follow :) your have a great blog!! , Have a Great day!

Thanks so much! I think you have a great blog too. I love it! :)

I know what you’re thinking, another post about another place in Claremont village. But no, this beautiful plate of tacos came from my dining hall. That’s right, it was Taco Tuesday at Pitzer tonight. I have to say, I’m really lucky, the food in McConnell Dining Hall is pretty great. I got two tacos, one beef and one chicken. Both were good, but I think I liked the beef more. The tacos were pretty simple, meat, a little guacamole, onions, cilantro, salsa verde, and lime. Super flavorful and definitely hit the spot.

Yesterday, my mom came up to school to visit me/bring me a few things I left at home (Ah the upside of being so close). Anyway, we went into the village for lunch and ate at this Italian restaurant called La Parolaccia Osteria Italiana. We split a calamari appetizer, which of course I forgot to take a picture of, but it was really good. The squid was lightly fried, so it didn’t have that really heavy feeling, and the spicy tomato sauce served alongside it was great too. Then I had their Panino Classico, which had tomato, fresh mozzarella, basil, and prosciutto. It was also pretty good. All in all, I think I would rather try some other places around the village before I head back to La Parolaccia, but I did enjoyed my lunch!

Yesterday, my roommate and I missed lunch in the dining hall, so we walked into the village again and ate at Le Pain Quotidien. For those of you who don’t know, Le Pain is a little french chain that serves really good organic food. We both had coffee, which of course was delicious, and my roommate got their tofu scramble. Which also was delicious. I got one of their tartines, basically open faced sandwiches. Mine had ricotta, mission figs, tomato, black pepper, and a little bit of honey.  It was so yummy. It was the perfect combination of sweet, a little salty, and creamy. On some of the pieces, once it was just ricotta left on the bread, I spread on some of the jam they give you and it was really good that way too! I love Le Pain and I’m really happy there is one close to school so I don’t have to wait until I’m home to satisfy a craving!

Friday, my roommate and I didn’t have class, so we went into Claremont Village with a friend. For lunch we went to this really yummy Mediterranean restaurant called Casablanca Bar and Grill. Before we ordered, they brought us a basket of pita bread with garlic sauce (very very good garlic sauce I might add). We all decided to share the cold combo, a plate of hummus, babaganoush, tabuleh, and stuffed grape leaves. Very tasty. After, my friend and I shared the chicken shawarma which was served with veggies and rice. The chicken was super flavorful, and the whole meal was quite enjoyable.

Last night a bunch of us were hungry at like 10:30. Unfortunately none of the dining halls on any of the campuses are open then. But! One of my friends had heard of this place on Harvey Mudd’s campus, called the Mudd Hole, that’s only open 7pm-2am. Well when we got there it was this cool little place under one of their big buildings, filled with couches, pool tables, regular tables, a bar to sit at, and tons of food. We ordered pizza rolls. Basically cinnamon rolls with sauce and cheese. They were delicious and super cheap! My only wish would be a side of extra sauce to dip them in next time.
